"I started the brewery back in 1984 simply because I love beer," says Jim Brickman, founder of Brick Brewing Co. Limited, the Waterloo, Ontario-based craft brewer. Jim's original dream was to create a small brewery that would produce unique, quality beers that were different from what was available in the Ontario marketplace at that time. In 1979, he began a worldwide journey of research and discovery that took him to 68 breweries in 29 countries. At the time, Jim's bold decision to open a "microbrewery," the first of it's kind in Eastern Canada in 37 years, faced significant obstacles from doubting bankers and bureaucrats.
