Waterloo, Ontario (April 11th, 2002) - The Stubby stands tall once again! More than 18 years after Canadians bid farewell to the beloved Stubby beer bottle, Brick Brewery is bringing back the unique squat-shaped bottle that Canadians still remember fondly. Brick Brewing Company of Waterloo, Ontario is also reviving Red Cap, one of Canada's most popular beers in the 50s and 60s. |
"Both the Stubby and Red Cap have earned a place in Canadian brewing history, so we felt it was a natural fit to bring them back together for a whole new generation of beer drinkers and for those of us who remember our stubby days," said Jim Brickman, Founder and President of Brick Brewery. "We gained the recipe rights to Red Cap because we felt it was a great tasting beer that Canadians would continue to enjoy. Today, we've brought the product full circle by returning to its roots - and original Canadian beer in an original Canadian bottle."
For almost 20 years Canadian brewers have incorporated a standardized in the packaging process, but Brick has broken the mold by re-introducing the Stubby. The only modern "twist" to the classic look? The cap... of course.
"Times change, tastes change and what's old is new again," said Brickman. "Brick is proud to be leading the way by providing Canadians with two pieces of their brewing heritage, Red Cap and the Stubby."
Brick will introduce Red Cap in the Stubby bottle to select Beer Stores in April, then roll out the Stubby across Ontario over the summer. Marketing support includes print, radio and outdoor advertising.
